Fine Tune Friday en español
My impending unemployment has gotten me to daydream a lot about what to do with all that time. Though I usually conclude that my unemployment would be best spent looking for employment thanks to my annoying sense of responsibility (thanks a lot, Mom and Dad), one of my daydreams is starting up a music blog that would force me to use the “world” part of the world wide web. There’s so much music out there, and while I love Pitchfork, there’s got to be so much great music out there that they’re missing. What if there’s some band in Brazil or Belgium or the Philippines that’s making music that blows my mind? I would use my time to find these deals and pass the savings on to you, the consumer.
El Guincho, “Palmitos Park”
download
El Guincho has been championed by Pitchfork, so it’s not like my endeavor is off to a great start. But it’s a reminder that there’s so much out there beyond what the indie world that I stay in. There’s so much more to rhythm than either the tired rock beats or the creative efforts to wake up the rock beats. There’s music sung in languages I don’t understand, so I can’t pick at the lyrics. There’s just creativity the world over, and while we all only have so much time and have to make necessary cut-off points, there’s got to be a better way to track it down.
This song is a flurry of percussion and a melody that’s both memorable and meandering. I find myself whistling it walking down the street, thinking that it’s insanely catchy, only to listen to it again and realize that I didn’t have it quite right.
Happy Friday, everyone. This should get you feeling some of that Friday joy.
Also picked up this week: the new Supergrass album fell off the truck. Besides what is easily the worst album title of the year (Diamond Hoo Ha), it sounds as though the ‘grass has been listening to KISS. And I really don’t know what to make of it.

A blog and nothing but since 2003. Some tech, lots of music, and if rambling was money, drinks are on me.

The Sun is going to burn out in 8 Billion years.

Wait a minute…that’s what you said two days ago. How can the count still be the same today as it was two days ago! That’s impossible! I’m beginning to question your self claimed sun-burning-out expertise. Who are your sources?
